Schedule

The IMM Executive MBA Program is divided into five 16-week instructional modules spanning approximately 22 months. In total the modules provide 48 hours of graduate course credit satisfying accreditation standards.

IMM is a ‘cohort’ program: all students in each class enter together, take a common set of courses in sequence together, and graduate together. This format, coupled with Internet-based communication tools, is what makes it possible for the class sessions to be concentrated into a series of two-week residencies. The revised curriculum also incorporates new teaching methodologies, which encourages an open exchange of ideas and viewpoints. This revision places even greater emphasis on the real business world application of the theories and strategies learned in the classroom.

  • A new group of participants enters the program each year in March - beginning with a seven-day orientation session on the Purdue campus - and continues through the 16-month course of study as a cohort, sharing the same educational experiences.
  • During this orientation the entering class is introduced to the Program curriculum, the faculty, the course offerings, the business software applications used, and the Internet-based communications and information retrieval system which is used to interact with the faculty and other participants. Particular emphasis is placed on cohesiveness among the group, through activities directed toward building an effective team, measuring team performance and managing diversity within a group.
  • The subsequent instructional sessions are concentrated into five two-week residencies every three months. The residencies rotate among the campuses of the four collaborating schools, and in addition an Asian, and the new Mexican in-residency locations.
  • Each residential session lasts from Monday through the next Saturday, and the class schedule includes includes 36 hours of classroom work each week.
  • The distance learning and off-campus sessions represent the time prior to each residency. During these sessions the program focuses on readings, written assignments and computer-supported team assignments, including online chat sessions with the faculty as preparation for the class sessions. Some core curriculum courses are delivered as online classes, and projects are also assigned to the teams.
  • During these off-campus periods, participants work approximately 15-20 hours per week. Completed assignments are submitted to the faculty and returned to the students via the Internet.
