Business Analysis for Cross-border Investment

Focus is on identifying the major risk factors resulting from the international macroeconomic uncertainties with the intent to become able to detect early signs of potential threats to our businesses. Particular attention will be given to the financial system and the energy outlook as key factors to be incorporated into the high-level conceptual analysis. Related ethical dilemmas and environmental concerns will also be addressed in the form of class-room discussions. Then, the course turns to more business-specific considerations behind cross-border direct investment decisions. Relevant market opportunities, cost factors and infrastructure availabilities will be evaluated against the difficulties of doing business in a given regulatory environment.  Several international rankings and their components will be studied in order to use them in comparing different aspects of business environments.  The final section of the course will analyze the case of OTP Bank's expansion in Eastern Europe as well as its experience in coping with the ongoing crisis in a case study format.
